03/29 ~ Around 1100 hours West Metro Fire Rescue was alerted to a reported semi fire on WB C-470 just north of Morrison Road. First due companies found an 18 wheeler hauling hay with flames & smoke showing. Crews initially started an attack on the ground, then started more units to assist. Due to the lack of hydrants, a rural water supply was established and used to supply the tower ladder. After a knock down was made, crews tried using extrication airbags to separate the stacks of hay. When that action wasn't enough, two front loaders from the City of Lakewood and CDOT were used to push the hay off of the trailer. Once the hay was on the ground it was easy for firefighters to hit the hot spots, then push the debris off the roadway. C-470 remained closed for several hours, no injuries were reported.
