Suspicious Barn Fire Claims Livestock

uinta1mike.JPG

05/09 ~ In the early afternoon multiple reports of a structure fire in the area of I-76 and 88th flooded Adcom.  South Adams Firefighters arrived at 8468 Uinta Street to find several outbuildings fully involved with animals trapped and bystanders attempting rescues.  Defensive operations immediately began and crews tried to rescue all the animals they could.  Flying embers ignited the roof of a shed on a neighboring property and caused minor damage.  Within 20 minutes the fire was knocked but extensive overhaul took place throughout the afternoon.  One person was transported for smoke inhalation and an unknown amount of animals died in the fire.  The cause remains under investigation but is suspicious, the Adams County Sheriff's Department and CBI are working the case.  Mike Melton Photo
